Flex
The Flex by Mantic is a versatile pedal with a wide range of features and
capabilities. Initially released in 2014, the Flex continues to set itself
apart from other PLL (phase-locked loop) pedals. It offers a wild range of
sounds and controllability, creating a new and inspiring voice out of anything
you put in. The Flex Pro version comes with an expression jack to control the
rate of the LFO (low-frequency oscillator). It is biased to offer the most
usable range of PLL sounds in a broad musical context without compromising the
user's ability to experiment.
The Flex Pro features a mix control, filter range selector, and variable speed
LFO for tracking modulation. It has a 9VDC center-negative polarity and a 35mA
draw. The pedal also includes a dry/wet mix for added versatility and an input
VCA with offset changes that drastically alter the tone based on the input
level set.
The pedal is designed with the same PLL circuit as the original Flex, Flex
Pro, and FLEX xs guitar pedals. It is recommended for use as an effect with
quick enveloped sounds, percussion, snappy basslines, VCOs, and as an aux
send, as it can create something new and exciting out of anything thrown at
it.
The Flex by Mantic has notable users including Nick Reinhardt, Adrian Belew,
Jack White, Justin Meldal-Johnson, Simon Francis, Claudio Sanchez, Ikey Owens,
and Juan Alderete.
