The Defender by Alexander Pedals is a digital distortion pedal with multiple drives, secondary effects, and advanced features. It offers various digital drives, including overdrive (OD), distortion (DST), and fuzz (FZ), each with distinct tonal characteristics. Users can select one of three special effects to combine with the distortion, including polyphonic octave shifting (PIT), space modulation (SPC), and a super-tweakable resonant lowpass filter (FLT).
The pedal features controls for LEVEL, DRIVE, WARP, LIGHT, BLEND, MATTER, and TWEAK, allowing users to adjust the overall output level, drive intensity, warp speed, treble/brightness, clean/distorted signal mix, bass depth, and special effect parameters. Additionally, the Defender includes a MultiJack for expression, footswitch, or MIDI connectivity, as well as stereo output, USB Mini-B for MIDI or firmware update, and requires a 9V DC power supply with 80mA consumption.
The Defender is part of Alexander Pedals' Neo Series, incorporating an advanced 32-bit microcontroller for presets, expression, and MIDI capability. It is fully compatible with other pedals in the Neo Series and offers MIDI control for accessing presets, warp, expression pedal, bypass, pedal knobs, mode select, and MIDI channel assignment.
The pedal's design allows for warp switching, impulse mode, expression pedal compatibility, bypass and preset functionality, and configuration mode for custom settings. The Defender is available for purchase at a price of $199.99.
