ROD881 Real Overdrive

The Maxon ROD881 Real Overdrive is a versatile pedal designed to provide a wide range of overdriven tube sounds and distortion tones. It is powered by a hand-selected 12AX7WXT preamp tube, which enhances the overdriven tube sounds and adds a switchable Distortion mode for searing, super-saturated guitar tones.

The ROD881 features a switchable Distortion mode that adds a secondary, cascaded gain stage into the signal path for extreme tube punishment. This mode greatly increases the pedal's versatility, allowing it to function in various roles from semi-clean booster to ultra-high gain preamp. Additionally, the pedal includes a Footswitchable Boost mode, effectively adding another channel to the amplifier for quick changes between solos and rhythms.

The control panel of the ROD881 allows for precise command of the output level and amount of Drive, with controls for Gain, Master Volume, Bass, Treble, and Mid Boost. These controls offer a wide array of tonal options, from classic 808 tones to extremely beefy low-end chunk.

To maintain clean and noise-free operation, the ROD881 is equipped with rear- mounted, switchable Noise Reduction circuitry with variable Threshold control and a 1:2 noise reduction ratio. The pedal is powered via a standard 9-volt DC adaptor, allowing for easy integration into a pedalboard or rack setup.
