The BlackHatSound by Reeves Electro is a vintage fuzz pedal that offers a unique and versatile tone. It is available in two variations, the BlackHatSound Deluxe (BHS-D) and the BlackHatSound - Vintage Fuzz with NOS Transistors and Bias Control. The BHS-D model is a wedge-style silicon fuzz pedal, while the Vintage Fuzz model features an added external bias control.
The BHS-D model is a traditional two-transistor fuzz with controls for output, fuzz, bias, tone, and mids, providing infinite tones. It is equipped with a pair of ME 'BlackHat' transistors, one ME4003, and one MEC1016, surrounded by high-quality new stock resistors and capacitors, all mounted on NOS strip board. The pedal operates on a center-negative 9V DC power supply.
The Vintage Fuzz model uses a matched pair of super rare vintage 'New Old Stock' ME4003 TO106 cased, 'Blackhat' transistors from the 1970s, creating a pedal that delivers a full, musical, and forceful tone. It features an external bias control that offers a smooth sweep and acts more like a contour or filter, with the ability to produce a range of tones from smooth and flowing to nasal and gated finishes. This model also includes a bass switch for thunderous bass and a tone control with enough mids to be heard in the mix without sounding muddy.
Both models are hand-built in Northamptonshire, UK, and are finished to a high standard both inside and out. They are painted with traditional solvent-based paint, which will age and wear over time, giving them a unique character. The pedals are designed for use with electric guitars and are suitable for various musical styles, offering a wide range of tonal possibilities.
The BHS-D model is priced at £450.00 GBP, while the Vintage Fuzz model is priced at £350.00 GBP.
