The Ultraphonix HRM by Vertex is an overdrive pedal designed to recreate the sought-after Dumble™ HRM overdrive tone that propelled the tweaked Overdrive Special Amplifier into stardom. It features EL-34 British-voiced Dumble-style overdrive, providing a sonic re-creation of Dumble ODS #0214. The pedal includes 5 voicing controls for overdrive tone, namely Master (volume), Volume (gain), Accent (presence), Tone, and Ratio (clean blend).
The "Master" control determines the total output of the pedal, while the "Volume" control adjusts the preamp's intensity, offering control over the amount of gain from the preamp. The "Accent" control increases presence and gradually introduces more saturation into the signal. The "Ratio" control allows blending of distorted and clean signals, and the "Tone" knob accentuates different upper-mid frequencies ranging from 800-1.6k Hz.
The Ultraphonix HRM is equipped with a 100% analog circuit and is designed in North Hollywood, California. Its dimensions are approximately 4.6’x3.2”x1.8” and it operates with a 9VDC power supply, consuming less than 60mA of current. The pedal features input and output connections and utilizes a 2.1mm barrel power connector with center negative polarity.
The HRM edition of the Ultraphonix, armed with EL-34 power amp tubes, offers a quintessentially British voicing and EQ shift compared to the original version. This pedal is suitable for guitarists seeking to achieve the distinctive EL-34 Dumble™ sound.
