E1010

The Yamaha E1010 is an analog delay unit with a maximum delay of around 300ms. It features a panel full of knobs, providing immediate changes without the need to navigate menus. The unit is designed for real-time tweaking and is equipped with five latching buttons for selecting delay ranges of 10ms, 75ms, 150ms, 225ms, and 300ms. The DELAY control scales the selected range between 0.25X and 1X.

The E1010 is suitable for echo, slap, and Haas processing effects, but modulated effects such as chorus and flanging may not sound optimal due to the missing delay range and the implementation of the LFO sweep control law. The unit utilizes multiple BBD ICs, including the MN3004 512-stage BBD for the 10ms range and a quad of chained MN3005 4096-stage BBDs for other ranges. To address noise accumulation, passive low pass filters, active filters, and a NE570 compander are employed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Basic controls for MIX, FEEDBACK, FREQUENCY, and DEPTH are available, along with separate BASS and TREBLE controls to modify the tone of the direct signal before entering the BBD chain. The E1010 also features front and rear panel jacks for input and output, with an optional direct output available on the rear panel only.

Overall, the Yamaha E1010 is suitable for simple slap delay or Haas effects for stereo enhancement, and it is a go-to unit for imparting a subtle stereo image on guitars.
