Augustus

The Augustus by Dusky Electronics is an octave fuzz pedal designed with a unique approach to deliver specific features and functionality. The pedal features controls for "Meat" (Bass), "Heat" (Gain), "Light" (Treble), and "More" (Volume). It operates with a 9V battery (not provided) or an external power supply of 9-18V, with 9V recommended (not provided).

The Augustus is described as an octave fuzz in the spirit of the Octavia designed by Roger Mayer in the late 1960s for Jimi Hendrix. It works by rectifying the audio signal fed into it, folding each wave in two to double its frequency, resulting in a severely mangled waveform. This unique process allows for a wide range of effects, including soaring leads, synth-like timbres, echoes of ring mod, giant robot power chords, and percussive stabs, which can be achieved through manipulation of the "Heat" knob and playing technique.

The pedal is equipped with MOSFET input and output amplifiers, providing a responsive, dynamic feel. Additionally, a high impedance input buffer ensures consistent sound quality regardless of its placement in the pedal chain. The Augustus offers a broad frequency response, making it suitable for use with various electrified instruments such as guitar, bass, baritone, synthesizer, and more.
