The Shift Line Twin MkIIs is a tube guitar preamplifier designed to deliver an authentic Fender sound in a compact casing. It is based on the '65 Fender Twin combo amp and features a classic tube circuit from INPUT to SEND jacks, with high anode voltage from a specially designed transformer, avoiding the use of SMPS circuitry. The preamplifier does not have a bypass option and is designed to be connected directly to a power amp using the 'power amp in' or 'return' jack on the amplifier.
Key features include a wide gain control for achieving clean, compressed, or overdriven signals, booster-friendly design, a REC output for recording or sending to a mixer console, and a switchable speaker simulator on the recording output for enhanced flexibility. The preamplifier also includes a phones output and aux input for home practice, and the loop signal level is optimized for use with effect pedals to prevent clipping.
The Twin MkIIs comes with a Tung-Sol 12ax7 tube installed, known for producing a balanced and transparent sound. All tubes are checked to be low-noise and low-microphonic, and the preamplifier features a DC heater supply to minimize noise. The controls include Master, Treble, Middle, Bass, Gain, Bright switch, and Cab Sim switch, offering versatile sound shaping options.
In terms of connections, it features high-impedance input, +20 dBu output, series Fx-loop, phones output, aux input, and line-level recording mono output. The dimensions of the box without knobs are 119x93x34 mm (4.7x3.7x1.3 inches), and it comes with a 12V AC, 1000mA power adapter for European sockets.
