The Companion FY-6 by Shin-ei is a reproduction of the original 1968 Shin-ei branded FY-6 Super Fuzz with modern enhancements. It features nine-volt external power capability and an LED pilot lamp for user convenience, along with a vintage-style nine-volt battery clip access. The unit is a tribute to the original 1967 Honey Co. Ltd. FY-6 "Baby Crying" effect, which was the first incarnation of the "Super Fuzz."
The FY-6 Super Fuzz is designed with a stainless bottom featuring "Super Fuzz" printed on it, reminiscent of the original units made in 1968. It closely replicates the original electronic circuitry and is almost indistinguishable from an original unit. Each unit incorporates NOS carbon comp resistors and high-quality original design Matsushita/Panasonic transistors.
In terms of operation, the unit is controlled by the Balance/Expander knobs and the slider switch (Tone 1 & 2) located on the left side of the unit. The design of the FY-6 Super Fuzz includes a steel enclosure with a recessed control area and a "Shin-ei" foil label, staying true to the original unit's aesthetics.
The FY-6 Super Fuzz is known for its iconic sound, offering two very different shades of monstrous fuzz – ripping chainsaw fuzz or brutal octave-ish wildness. It has been used by numerous guitar icons and is a valuable addition to any fuzz arsenal.
