The Cranium by Zander Circuitry is a distortion pedal inspired by a classic circuit that has been featured in legendary records by bands such as Foo Fighters, Radiohead, R.E.M., and Metallica. It offers modern control over a classic circuit with the following technical specifications:
- Controls: The Cranium features seven controls for precise sound sculpting:
- Gain: Control over the level of distortion
- Tone: EQ for the output signal
- Freq: Variable resistor control for precise frequency adjustments
- Body: Low-frequency and gain tweaking
- Level: Output volume control
- Blast: Output volume control in Blast mode
- 1-8: Clipping diode selector for choosing between eight different clipping
types
- Footswitches: The pedal includes two footswitches:
- Engage: For turning the effect on and off
- Blast: Activates Blast mode for an added dose of distortion
- Switching: The Cranium features both momentary and latching switching, allowing users to temporarily engage an effect by holding down one of the footswitches and then releasing it to return to normal operation.
- Additional Features:
- Top-mounted in/out jacks for convenient pedalboard placement
- Power requirements: 9V DC (center-negative) supply (power supply not
included)
- Current draw: 120 mA
- Dimensions: (W)67 mm x (L)122 mm x (H)60 mm
The pedal's flexibility and added functionality provide users with extra control over critical parts of the circuit for stress-free tweaking, making it quicker and easier to find the desired sound. The signature diode rotary switch allows for experimentation with different diodes to create a unique flavor of distortion. Additionally, the Blast footswitch ramps the drive all the way up and activates a second volume control for quick switching between low and high-gain sounds.
The Cranium offers a versatile and modern take on a classic distortion circuit, making it suitable for a wide range of musical styles and applications.
