The Burn Unit by Barber Electronics is a wide-range overdrive pedal designed to provide a variety of distortion textures. It features a simple control set with two three-way toggles for midrange and dynamics. The dynamics control determines the point at which the distortion starts to compress and break up, offering a range from subtle edge of breakup to vintage rock and fusion amp sounds. The midrange control allows for adjustment between neutral and mid- forward levels.
The pedal is hand-made in the USA with through-hole components and a mix of NOS and current parts. It is priced at $199.95 and is available for purchase directly from the manufacturer.
The Burn Unit is designed to closely replicate the sounds of different amplifiers producing various levels and textures of distortion while maintaining a simple and easy-to-understand control set. The pedal aims to emulate distortion from Fender Tweeds amps, blackface, vintage Marshalls, and the Dumble ODS sound. It also incorporates a dynamics knob, which allows users to set the point at which secondary compression/distortion kicks in.
The Burn Unit EQ model offers internal controls for presence, "deep clear" bass, and midrange, allowing players to customize the pedal to match their amp and guitar. It features true bypass switching with an LED indicator, full-size pots for durability, and a cast aluminum enclosure for long-lasting durability.
The pedal also includes volume knob response circuitry, a double-sided PCB with plate-through holes, and a unique pivot-style 9-volt battery clip for durable, long-life operation. Internal controls for presence, midrange, and bass further expand the tonal versatility of the Burn Unit.
