The Gold MKII by Pettyjohn Electronics is a full-range overdrive/distortion pedal designed to capture the classic tones of the Marshall Plexi (1959SLP) in a compact pedal format. It features a proprietary 36V internal headroom power supply, providing an amp-like tone and response from a standard 9V power source. The pedal offers a wide gain range inspired by vintage Marshall tones, ranging from low-gain overdrive to full-on distortion, and is known for its amp-like feel and dynamics.
The Gold MKII boasts a powerful 3-band EQ with wide-range, sweepable low cut and high cut filters, as well as a sweepable mid bell. It also includes two internal mini toggles for further tone shaping. The first toggle controls the hi-cut, allowing users to switch between a punchy modern feel and a smoother, vintage vibe to the highs. The second toggle adjusts the pedal's headroom, offering a choice between an open, amp-like feel resembling classic Plexi tone and a low headroom setting capturing the attitude and character of the iconic Klon overdrive.
Additionally, the Gold MKII features a gain bypass in the third position of the headroom toggle, allowing users to completely bypass the clipping section and use the pedal as a formidable preamp with a semi-parametric 3-band EQ capable of sculpting any instrument with its 20Hz-20kHz frequency range.
The pedal is handmade in the USA, with dimensions of 2.75”W x 4.75”L x 2.5”H and a weight of 2 lbs. It is designed, forged, and wired by a small team of partners at Pettyjohn Electronics.
