The Apex Preamp by Horizon Devices is a versatile pedal designed for modern metal guitarists seeking powerful high-gain tones. The pedal features a switchable speaker simulation for recording or DI applications, and it includes a noise gate known from the Precision Drive pedal, providing assertive rhythm sound without increasing the gain range. The pedal can be powered at both 9V and 18V, with 9V operation requiring 29 mA and 18V requiring 50 mA. It is recommended to run the unit at 9V for optimal performance. The Apex Preamp also offers EQ controls for bass, middle, and treble, as well as a gain knob with a substantial amount of gain on tap. Additionally, it comes with a bypassable cabinet simulator modeled after a modern 4x12 cabinet loaded with modded V30 speakers. The pedal can be used in various setups, including clean/dirty amp, amp FX loop, interface, and pedalboard to FOH configurations.
